Get Healthy with Fit Moms for Life~Review and Giveaway

Let me start by saying this is the average "diet book".  Fit Moms for Life is all about changing your mindset about getting health and then starting your journey to become fit.  The author, Dustin Maher, doesn't even start talking about food until chapter five.  Dustin Maher is 28 year-old, single fitness instructor.  Why is he so interested in helping mother's get fit?  Here is a little about him in his own words:
"The first question I get asked a lot is, why a 28 year old single guy loves working with moms.  Well the answer to that question goes back many years to when my mom raised my 3 younger siblings and me, along with my dad.  She was a stay-at-home mom and did so much for her 4 children.  Looking back, I realized that she spent so much time taking care of her kids that she didn’t take time for herself.  I also realized that she didn’t have a good support group of other mothers who were motivated to get in shape and lose the baby fat.  I was very blessed to have a mom that was health conscious and cooked very healthy.  I learned a lot from her as she taught me what it meant to eat well.  I have also realized that when I can help a mom change the foods that she buys for her family and begins to exercise, her kids want to do what she is doing!  So not only do I get to help the mother out, but I get to help out the kids and maybe the husband (once in awhile) out as well."
Dustin is all about helping moms understand the realities of exercise and eating.  After every chapter there are "Fit Moms for Life Transformations" that include a some of the women who really put to use that chapters main goals.  These are real women, not paid actors, that have used his system to becoming a healthier version of themselves.  I really liked this part and it drove home that his book really does work!

The first few chapters are all about mindset.  He stresses the fact that you and and you are going to change how you look and feel.  Some of his tips to get you in the right mindset are:

  • Believe you're worth it.
  • Put yourself first.(This one is the hardest for me!)
  • Believe that change is possible.
  • Practice positive thinking and speaking.
  • Understand and overcome what's holding you back.
  • Get rid of negative influences and limiting beliefs.

He goes into detail for each tip above and really gets down to the core of setting the right mindset!  He also talks a lot about the importance of goal setting, both long and short term.  The last part of this section is being real with yourself.  Where are you truly at health wise?  There is a fitness test(don't worry there are detailed instructions!) and a nutritional reality check.  I found these all to be really helpful.  I wasn't nearly as bad as I thought I was!

The next section of chapters are all about food.  There is a lot of information here!  But not in a way that is hard to understand.  He goes into what exactly you should and shouldn't be eating.  There is a few really helpful charts like: Rules to Eat By, The Dirty Dozen and Clean 15, Healthy Carbs, Fats and Proteins to Include in You Eating Plan and Healthy Snacks Ideas.  I loved that there was no complex formula to what you should be eating.  Just basic facts that are easy to implement into your everyday life.  This isn't a diet; it's more of a way of life.

The last two sections are about how to get fit and stay that way.  He focuses on strength and burst training.  It's not about running on the treadmill for hours but about shorter more intense exercises.  There are details on what muscles to work on and how to do so.  I have never even heard of burst training but it seems to make perfect sense!  Plus it's not too overwhelming for newbies so you will be more inclined to workout!  There is a whole section on putting together the perfect workout for you and instructions on a bunch of different exercises.

This is one of the best fittest books I have ever read!  Mostly, it is because it is actually readable!  You can easily pick it up and read a chapter or two and come back later on.  It's an easy read, packed with valuable information.  You can track your progress at the end of the book and he is a really great motivator.

Dawn of Saudi

This poignant mystery is about three people whose lives intertwine in a tale that depicts the oppression of women and the human rights abuse under the pretext of religion. Dawn Parnell made the mistake of marrying a Saudi; Sahar Al-Hijazi is forced to marry a man she doesn't love; Jason Crawford has business ties to the Al-Hijazi family. As the lives of these three people cross paths, the story takes the reader on a dangerous journey from Saudi Arabia where women are considered the property of a man, to United States where women are independent.

The Dawn of Saudi is an intense book that every woman should read.  It tells of two women who are a part of the Muslim Saudi Arabian culture.  I only know a little about this culture and was beyond surprised at what they have to do, like forced marriages.  Can you even imagine what that would be like? As an American girl I think it was a benefit to date guys and see what qualities you definitely do not want in a future husband/father of your children.  When one is picked for you, based on importance of the man dealing with his society status and wealth, it could ultimately end in heartbreak and mistreatment.  Because this stuff actually happens in the real world, it is saddening and horrific at the same time.  The main character, Sahar, is a young girl in her twenties.  She had the privilege of going to another country for school, where she met and befriended an American girl named Dawn.  Sahar literally made men not want to marry her, which was a fantastic idea to me.  However one day a 68 yo who happened to be her cousin decided he would.  Does her family have a problem? Of course not because it was done so her Grandfather's ailing business can be helped! Sahar was a bright young girl who decided against it all on the night of her wedding.  Supposedly she "died of an aneurysm" but she despised him and the cultural norms so you can just imagine what happened.    Her friend Dawn from school thought she met the perfect man, who yet was older than she.  She thought love was mutual and he promised her so much, but promises are broken when she begins be be beat.  One night her husband went above and beyond beating her, so she protected herself and fought back.  He will no longer harm another women and offer broken promises.   The story becomes even more intense, with a romance that is formed on a rocky cliff for both parties.  Be sure to buy it on Amazon/B&N!

The Mystic Wolves #2

Forget Me Not (#2, The Mystic Wolves)

Only a fool would think they could steal from a werewolf …

Anticipating a quiet night alone with the man she loves, Darcy’s world is sent into a spin with the arrival of someone from the past—Mason’s. She is further shocked by the intruder’s claim she may not even be the true mate of the Mystic Wolves Alpha. Accusations start to fly, leading to her new enemy being granted asylum, and this is just the beginning of trouble.  Relying on the reassurances of Mason and the support of her friends and Pack, Darcy soon falls under attack. Suspicions are raised, and with no other choice, she must flee with Devlin to safety where hopefully they can untangle the lies hidden behind the use of magic. Time is quickly ticking away, leading to a showdown where everything is on the line.  They need to uncover the truth before it’s too late, or once again, Darcy will need to fight to hold onto her dreams.
--
Wow!  This is the second book in the series, which is amazing.  I love series books because I get to know the characters as if they were real.  Belinda Boring definetly adds extreme details into her story, which allows me to see it come alive while I read.  As with any book with multiple men who could be enticing and amazing, this was no exception.  It is hard for one to decide which one to like better, Mason or Devlin.  Darcy shows absolute femininity when she does not fight with the she-dog, Amber, when she is set on destroying her life.  Throughout the book I knew there had to be a reason why Amber was so attached to Mason, which reveals itself when she claims her dad will kill her if she does not marry him.  Want to know why?  Well go get the book on Amazon and read it yourself!
Be sure to DL the first book for FREE as well :)   Kindle/ Nook / Paperback

The RX Factor!

"The RX Factor" by J. Thomas Shaw.

Synopsis: Dr. Ryan Matthews is a broken man. Five years after the death of his wife and children and the collapse of his career in medical research, Ryan is living alone in the Bahamas. One night, an attractive young woman named Jordan Carver catches his eye. Jordan is vacationing with her aunt and uncle aboard their luxury yacht anchored in Elizabeth Harbor. There is instant chemistry between the two, and, following a long night of merriment, Ryan offers to pilot the dinghy that will haul Jordan back to her aunt and uncles yacht. As they are trolling towards the vessel, the luxury liner is destroyed in a violent explosion, killing her aunt and uncle instantly. As Jordan collapses in grief, Ryan can sense that his life's course has once again been forever altered.
-
When the main character, Ryan, realizes his wife has cancer, he personally gets her in a clinical trial for a cancer drug that he has created himself.  As the family struggled with this diagnosis and waited to hear the results, the story started throwing it's blanket of deception over me.  The results from the test say his wife, Cindy, is not cured at all and no progress was made in the clinical trial. As a family they wanted to spend as much time left that Cindy has and began the journey to the Bahamas.  A main plot of the story begins when the plane crashes and his entire family is gone in a blink of an eye.  Dr. Ryan literally began to swallow his grief and resentment in alcohol all day long in the Bahamas.  At this time a shining star walked into his life, Jordan.  They begin to talk and realize she is a researcher as well, which starts to pull him out of his grief stricken life. Although he does not really believe she will be successful in bypassing the FDA, he admires her courage.  As these two travel though movie style action sequences, we are left with many questions.  The author, Mr. Shaw, completely summed up one of the main questions people have into an action packed novel :  "Why can't Cancer be cured?"

NNAT2 Test book!

Photo: The-Test-Tutor.com
The Test Tutor: NNAT2 practice workbook. The NNAT2 is a test given to children ages 5 to 17 as part of a gifted/talented program admissions process.  As a General Education and Special Education teacher I can see even more reasons to use it!
Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (second edition)—NNAT2 uses progressive matrices to allow for a culturally neutral evaluation of students’ nonverbal reasoning and general problem-solving ability, regardless of the individual student’s primary language, education, culture or socioeconomic background.

What do teachers use the NNAT2 to evaluate students?
  • General ability in the entire student population
  • Students of limited English skills from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Gifted and talented students
  • Non-English speakers, intermediate English speakers, and students learning the English language for the first time
  • Students with limited motor skills, hearing impairment, and minimal color-vision impairment
  • Students whose economic or social circumstances have limited their acquisition of knowledge and verbal skills
What I liked about this series is it only takes around 30 minutes to administer! Plus, almost any education professional can use it: bilingual educators, testing coordinators, gifted & talented teachers, special education teachers, functional life skills facilitators, counselors, & school psychologists.

I received the workbook to try out and it can easily be made to use with as a whole class exercise, 5 minute warm-ups, or a bell ringer.  If you are not really sure what a 'Bell Ringer' is then you are in luck!  In the first 5 minutes or the last 5 minutes of class you have your students sit down, collect their thoughts and complete an activity.  I would use my projector,  an overhead camera, or for specific students a copy of the question(s) you are giving out.  The thing I liked most about the NNAT2 book is it is spiral bound, which makes it extremely easy to manipulate and use.  I hate when workbooks are in the thick binding, which often wears out and pages disappear.  With the NNAT2 workbook you will always have the pages in a neat and orderly manner.

Romancing Olive Book Tour!

Photobucket
Romancing Olive by Holly Bush   Genre: Historical Romance
Synopsis: In 1891, spinster librarian, Olive Wilkins, is shocked to learn of her brother’s violent death at a saloon gaming table and her sister-in-law’s subsequent murder, traveling far from her staid life to rescue her niece and nephew, now orphans. She arrives to find the circumstances of her brother’s life deplorable and her long held beliefs of family and tradition, shaken. Accustomed to the sophistication of Philadelphia, Olive arrives in Spencer, Ohio, a rough and tumble world she is not familiar with, facing two traumatized children. Her niece and nephew, Mary and John, have been living with a neighboring farmer, widower Jacob Butler, the father of three young children of his own and a man still in pain from the recent loss of his wife. Real danger threatens Olive and Mary and John while Jacob and his own brood battle the day-to-day struggles for survival. Will Olive and Jacob find the strength to fight their battles alone or together? Will love conquer the bitterness of loss and broken dreams?
How did you come up with the title(s)? Romancing Olive implies a past, a present and a future and Olive's journey is the crux of the story. Train Station Bride sets up the whole story and begs a question - Who gets married at a train station and why?

What books have influences your life the most? To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, Slightly Married and A Prayer for Owen Meany are my top all-time and yes, it's a bit of an odd group.

About how many tries did it take to get your book published? I always tell my students many writers have great difficulty in this part but never give up!
Both of my books are self-published through a company called BookBaby. I have 5 historical romances and 1 and a half women's fiction books written. I started writing fifteen years ago and have an Excel Spread Sheet for the books I've queried. I've sent as many as 300 letters or emails to mostly agents and some publishers for my books. Traditional publishing can be very frustrating and hard to break into especially as there are requirements that you don't always know when you begin writing, especially concerning word count. Writing a good query can be more difficult than writing your book. It's a different kind of writing and the preferred style can change from agent to agent.

As frustrating as this has been, my family has been very supportive of my writing and I've always belonged to a writer's group. I tell all writers starting out, or at any stage of their career for that matter, to join a writer's group. Reading your own work aloud and hearing comments can be some of the most useful feedback you will ever get and hearing other writers read their work and working out in your head why it did or didn't sound or feel right is tremendously helpful to any writer.

The changes in publishing will offer new writers a foothold that hasn't been available for a decade because traditional publishers eliminated or vastly reduced their mid-list author list. The new formula, I think, will be to do all the basic marketing and build a fan base through self-publishing and then begin to query agents and editors. In fact, from what I'm reading, some agents are scouring Amazon and Goodreads and Shelfari and other sites like those for writers without contracts that are already reaching a fan base rather than looking for writers from query letters only. Bottom line is - keep writing and editing.

Is there a specific teacher or teachers whom you gained a love for reading and writing from? Mrs. Cavanaugh and Mrs. Dillon of the Greater Latrobe High School English Department were both great influences on me. My parents were the most influential, though. Everyone in my house was always reading a book or two. Growing up we didn't watch much TV, and my father didn't care what I read, even if it was a Jughead comic book, as long as I was reading.
Thank you so much Holly!  We all enjoyed your responses :)

"Revenge of the Vegetarian"

The author, Jim Tilberry, has his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, while taking humorous jabs at a variety of easy targets.  Get a silly lesson on how to deal with meat eaters in social situations.  Read hilarious interviews with famous dead vegetarians such as Gandhi, Socrates, and Ben Franklin.  You'll even get a comical look at how the English language would change if an overly zealous vegetarian politician got his way.

The book also poses a lot of "what ifs."  What if there was a "Vegetarian Olympics"?  What if vegetarians ruled the country?  And what would a vegetarian horoscope tell you about your future?  Also you'll learn some laughable techniques meat eaters can use to more easily quit their carnivorous habit.

"Revenge" pokes fun at vegetarians, vegans, liberals and conservatives.  But it pokes the most fun at meat eaters.  This short entertaining book is ideal for any vegetarian or vegetarian wannabe with a sense of humor.

"Revenge of the Vegetarian" is a paperback with just 70 pages.  It’s a very quick and easy read.

This book was a wonderful read, much different than the other books regarding vegetarianism. One thing I noticed about this book was the choice of font and spacing.  It made it exremely easy to read and would be great for all ages.    As a Special Education teacher I always look at this to determine if the font can cause confision or is to closely spaced.  This book is neither! The book is binded (put together) to last, especially if children are constantly flipping though it.  I loved the 10 Great Reasons to Become a Vegetarian, mainly #7:
7. It's easier to pick up women. When you're at a bar or party, tell the women you just met that you're a vegetarian because you care about animals.
Revenge of the Vegetarian is on Amazon for $11.95.
This is a great addition to any classroom to promote differences and understanding, as well as having for ones own library.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

With new rules and new players on the ice, will Fallon and Lucas be able to work out their differences and work as a team or will they be left trying to score alone.
-----
Anything that deals with wine I love.  This has some spoilers in it... sorry... I try not to ever do this!  Although this was a good story, I had a few reservations about it.  I really thought the main character, Fallon, was going to be a nice lady because she worked do hard to get where she was. Yet, when I found out what the big secret was I thought she was really mean.  Lucas meets the apple of his eye, his own son.  What? Yes I said son, Aiden.  Like any book there is always a character that the reader instantly dislikes, which was Fallon in my case.  She was so mean and stubborn, if that is even the right word, towards Luke.  I think she did not use her entire brain when dealing with the situation and kept thinking Luke could do much better.   This story is about love lost and found again,  in a form you would never have imagined.

"Super Born: Seduction of Being" R/GA

"Super Born: Seduction of Being"
 Keith Kornell

When I first saw this book cover I immediately thought it was about a blonde who fought against criminals.  My second thought after that was maybe it was about a girl who used masks and followed along the lines of 50 Shades of Grey.

This is the actual synopsis from Amazon: An evolution in the female superhero, Super Born: Seduction of Being is a romantic satire based on a quirky journalist's search for a reluctant Super Woman. She is a single mother with thirty years of normal existence before super powers begin to show themselves and complicate her life. As she searches for her new place in the world, a crowd of "others" search for her as well. Told from both the journalist's and superhero's point of view, Super Born is a flowing unique read.

Whew - I love being right, well at least some part right! I can not say enough how much I enjoyed this book.  Finally we have a superhero that is like a normal person.  The story really starts when a Doctor believes the woman who will be a Superhero lives in Scranton, PA.

Side note, did you know that city workers in Scranton, PA had their pay cut to minimum wage?! Yes that includes firemen and police officers.  How can you even live on that? It would take a week of working to fill my car up with gas, and I get more than 26 mpg!  The city is obviously being crazy and obviously has no empathy for their workers.

Back to Super Born... The perspectives of a journalist and of Super Born are used to tell us the story, in a diary type of format.  It goes from how the journalist first gets involved with the Doctor when he believes that their are superwomen located in Scranton due to the high surge of 'radiation' during the Superbowl of '76.  After the radiation exposure, the men go crazy and have a thing called RFD, while some women actually get super powers like Super Born.  She was catching criminals and preventing crimes, which in turn makes people jealous.  While on one side the journalist and everyone becoming her fans on a website love her, their are others like the not so successful superwomen and crime lords that despise her.    Be sure to check out the website  at : www.thebib.org

The Light Tamer Book Tour

Synopsis: Jessie moved from New York to North Carolina one week after school let out for summer break. Her newly single mother and Jessie move in with grandma Gayle. Being a teen in a retirement area, is one more thing to add to her ‘this sucks’ list. It’s bad enough to have to move, but even worse her alcoholic father left them as he went on a quest to be an artist in Greece.  Things begin to look up when she is reintroduced to Caleb, the dorky boy that saved her life one summer at the beach. Caleb is no longer scrawny and nerdy, he is now tall, dark and handsome. Caleb is a Light Tamer.  Jessie and Amber become fast friends. Amber is a no frills girl, her snarky comments and sassy attitude will raise a few eyebrows and have you laughing out loud. Amber is rough around the edges, a light tamer with only two years left to find the one she is bound to. Her father’s surfing accident left her dad paralyzed and her brother dead.  This paranormal romance will keep you on the edge of your seat with humor, romance, and determination. Fall head over heels for Caleb and Jessie.

In all honesty I love to read Young Adult books.  To me it is a category that is filled with books adults love to read, as well as teenagers.  The Light Tamer was told as a 1st person POV (Point Of View). The main character, Jessie is a 15yo who just moved to a new town.  We all know moving to a new town is difficult - new friends, new cliques, new clothes fashion, teenage angst.  Devyn Dawnson did a great job at describing the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that are displayed.  I think putting the typical teenage worries into words is difficult, yet Dawnson did it.  As you get to know Jessie and Caleb  you instantly feel that connection between reader and character.  By the end of the book you are anxiously waiting for the second story in the trilogy to find out more information and to answer those questions that are sitting on the back of your mind after reading this.   Be sure to go to Amazon to buy it!  Kindle $2.99 Paperback $14.99

Flashback Friday~7/6

This weeks' flashback is what was your favorite book growing up?

I must have read The Giving Tree a thousand times when I was little.  When I found out I was pregnant, it was one of the first things I bought for our daughter.  It has possibly the best moral of any book I have ever read.  If I would ever get another tattoo, it would get from this book.  FYI, Ryan Gosling has one!  Just one other reason we should meet(and make out). Sorry hubby!
“... and she loved a boy very, very much-- even more than she loved herself.”
I also read(and owned) every single Nancy Drew book growing up.  I eventually moved on to reading Agatha Christie and I believe this is one reason I love reading to this day.

What was your favorite book?

Taking Shots Book Tour

Taking Shots - Toni Aleo
Genre: sports romance
Synopsis:Elli Fisher has never thought she was good enough. Let it be her job, her weight, her love life, nothing, she was convinced she couldn’t do anything right. She had walked through life for the past six years in a daze, never thinking that life could be good again after the abuse she endured from her ex boyfriend. She is lonely, sad, and depressed, that is until she meets Shea Adler. After doing a promotional shoot for the NHL team, the Nashville Assassins, she meets the hunky hockey player who shoots a puck, shattering her world.  Shea Adler was tired of the life he was living outside of the rink. The girls, the money blowing, the drinking, everything had to stop and it all did when he met Eleanor Fisher. He had never met anyone like her. She is feisty, witty, shy, and simply gorgeous. When he laid eyes on her, it was as if he was taking the hardest hit of his life into the boards, and he had to have her.  Elli is a little skeptical of Shea, but he knows that they were meant to be together, and he needed her in his life. But Elli just doesn’t understand what Shea could see in her. She is overweight, loud, and not even that pretty, so why would someone so gorgeous and so amazing want to be with her? It seemed that no matter how hard she tried to shake Shea off, he wasn’t going anywhere, and for the first time Elli didn’t feel alone.  But could Elli throw her insecurities out the window and love Shea with everything inside of her? Or will she let a past relationship, and her family ruin any chance of her being happy? Would Ellie miss her shot at love?
 ---
Being an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan, I loved that it was an actual hockey story.  To be honest this was the first book that really dealt with the NHL and a love story I have ever read or heard about.  I always wondered what the players were like off the ice, because they are so tough and determined on it.  When HBO did Penguins Vs. Flyers 24/7 I loved it!  Who knew that a tradition/superstition was to eat a PB&J sandwich (or sandwitch as some students write) before a game?  Taking Shots was captivating and I was hooked from the moment it began.  The author, Toni Aleo, describes Elli as a typical lady would think of herself - weighing more than the average girl, not as pretty as others, and having the typical comparison issues of girls they see in magazines.  When she met and began to know Shea the "player" it allows one to realize we may be able to get over out inner demons regarding looks.  To find out more head over to buy the book on Amazon OR enter below!

Sustainable History and the Dignity of Man

Synopsis: Sustainable History and the Dignity of Man is a new philosophy of history. This volume outlines how sustainable history is propelled by good governance, which balances the tension between the attributes of human nature - emotionality, amorality and egoisms - and human dignity needs, such as reason, security, human rights, accountability, transparency, justice, opportunity, innovation and inclusiveness. The author proposes minimum criteria for good governance that are sensitive to local cultures and histories but meet certain common global values to ensure maximum and sustainable moral and political cooperation. Using an ocean model of a single collective human civilisation, the author argues that we should think in terms of a common human story that is comprised of multiple geo-cultural domains and sub-cultures with a history of mutual borrowing and synergies. The author argues that, today, all geo-cultural domains must succeed if humanity as a whole is to triumph. This collective triumph will also depend on reason and a recognition that a great deal of knowledge is indeterminate and may be temporally, spatially and perhaps culturally constrained, as is outlined in the author's new theory of knowledge: "Neuro-rational Physicalism".

This book weighs a whopping 3 pounds! Yes it is intimidating from the onset, but you will ease into it.  It has a lot of amazing information/ideas and is separated in sections to make it easier for a reader, even one who is new to this type of genre. The first section is a review and/or introduction to various theories and references to a book we recently reviewed called Emotional Amoral Egoism.  The second section is distinctly different.  Dr. Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan believes we can create a justice for all type of existence.  As the world is now, justice for all in the world is a Miss America dream.  If we are relying on his theory from Emotional Amoral Egoism, we realize that this happens because of humans being self-fulfilling.  Some countries rely on 'justice' by killing without thinking - how is this really called justice?  Finally he focuses on the scientific part of things, which is the authors specialty! He discusses ideas such as gene therapy and nanotechnology.   Big ideas for such a small world! Be sure to check out his website.  I highly recommend this book for philosophy, history, and science people!

Emotional and Amoral Egoism

By: Dr. Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan
Synopsis: The enduring assumption that human behavior is governed by innate morality and reason is at odds with the persistence of human deprivation, injustice, brutality, inequality and conflict. This book offers a fresh look at human nature and universal security by proposing a new general theory of human nature, "emotional amoral egoism", and a specific theory of human motivation that draws on a wide range of philosophical, psychological and evolutionary approaches to human nature as well as neuroscientific research. It argues that human behavior is governed primarily by emotional self-interest and that the human mind is a predisposed tabula rasa. The author argues that most human beings are innately neither moral nor immoral but rather amoral. Circumstances will determine the survival value of humankind's moral compass. This insight has profound implications for the re-ordering of governance mechanisms at all levels with a strong emphasis on the role of society and the global system. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the substrates of human nature and its universal security implications in relation to identity, conflict, ethnocentrism, xenophobia, morality and global governance.

Dr. Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan is Senior Scholar in Geostrategy and Director of the Programme on the Geopolitical Implications of Globalisation and Transnational Security at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, Geneva, Switzerland.

First, if you are saying what in the world is she taking about?  Do not fear!  Well, unless you have flashbacks to Ethics and Theory while at college ... This book is extremely well written and poses many questions for the reader.  The main question I picked up on was the entire concept of humans being born with a Tabula Rasa - A Blank Slate! When you compare people, whether they grew up in the same area in the world or not, certain decisions they make are key to what they will grow into as an adult.  As the author states,  we are prone to certain things from our genetics and the environment we currently live in.  Basically we are more emotionally driven than anything rational.  Dr. Nayef R.F. Al-Rodhan explains humans are self-fulfilling, looking out for number 1, when making any type of decision.  Depending on where one grew up, the environment has a key element in this area.

This would be a great book to use in a Ethics and/or Theory class.  It is around 240 pages, sold on Amazon, and should be a college read!  Be sure to check out his website for more information.
