Storyland Yoga: Yoga for Kids and Families~Review and Giveaway!

What is Yoga?
1. Hindu theistic philosophy teaching the suppression of all activity of body, mind, and will in order that the self may realize its distinction from them and attain liberation
2. A system of exercises for attaining bodily or mental control and well-being
The basis for all of Playful Planet’s product is the Storyland Activity Series™.  Playful Planet's ultimate goal is to provide a comprehensive set of media programs (along with their companion curriculum and mobile app’s,) that will inspire a well-rounded set of activities to bring out the best in our kids — creatively charged, health-inspired, conscious citizens that feel empowered to treat their bodies and the planet with respect!

Storyland Yoga is going to become a TV series on PBS!   Because one of us is a teacher and the other is a mother, it is easy to understand why we love PBS.  Remember when you were younger and loved to watch Reading Rainbow or Magic School Bus? Yes, that was on PBS Kids!  If you are wondering how kids are going to stay still and take breaths as you have seen or done yourself, do not worry!  They follow the host by becoming part of the story - they literally imitate animals.  Trust us when we say it is not just for the kids to do alone.  You may think you look silly but the kids actually love when you do stuff with them.  Make sure you read to your children to empower their mental abilities, but do physical activities like Storyland Yoga too!
Boo is sick as a dog but still "surfing"!

What did we think?  I was a little apprehensive at first.  How can they get a kid to pay attention while doing yoga?  They somehow managed to make it both informative and entertaining.  My daughter loved "Save the Whale"!  It had whales, dolphins and mermaids, what more can a little one ask for?  I assumed it be a lot of yoga with a little storytelling.  But that story seemed natural, never forced, and the yoga was really well integrated. The story also had a cartoon every few minutes, drawing the less-focused child(like mine) back to the screen.  Boo was really sick that morning yet she still payed attention and tried some of the yoga poses.  I think that this would be great for early mornings or evenings as a way to get your kid to wind down.  On a side note, my two year old daughter is waaaaay more flexible than I am.  I may just have to start doing this DVD with her all the time!
