My daughter is obsessed with germs lately. Even since she saw the episode about them on Yo Gabba Gabba, I cannot get her to stop worrying about it. So when I first saw Giant Microbes I thought that it may help her understand. Giant Microbes are plush giant sized germs, cells and more! My daughter and I sat down in front of the computer and looked through their online store. We talked all about germs but she ended up choosing the Krill.
She insists on calling it her Shrimp. But I think that it did help her understand that there are really small things everywhere we cannot see. I think that these would be great for teaching in everywhere from preschool to high school biology class. They come in Critters, Diseases, Aquatics, and more.

I received the above products through Sublime Media Connection in exchange for an honest review. In no way was I asked to give a positive review.
I am sorry she is obsessed. I hope it isn't too much. It is strange thinking about it their is bugs everywhere. Thanks for the review. Interesting microbes. Rita Spratlen rjspratlen@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteAlright, I must know, what germs do Krill contain or what is the purpose of Krill as a microbe?
ReplyDeleteI took a look at the site and while some of the plushies are cute...some are just plain weird. I do like them though.
ReplyDeleteThat is the prettiest krill I've ever seen...does she have a whale who can eat it?
ReplyDeleteHer favorite animal is actually a whale shark(odd I know)!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea behind these. I am a chemistry/biology major and the kids are always asking me questions that i have trouble answering in kid language. These would be PERRRRFECT. Thank you for sharing the review.
ReplyDeleteI just love thses!

DeleteI love all of the plushes. I have a degree in Molecular biology, so these would allow me to get in touch with my inner geek.
ReplyDeleteAt first this seems like a weird idea, but I can see where it would really be helpful in helping kids learn. Plus, I know that germs always interest kids.

Neat, maybe there should have been something like this when my kids were small
ReplyDeleteI'd like to give Herpes to all my friends!
ReplyDeleteOk this is neat, I need these for my friends as well as my nieces
ReplyDeleteAs an adult I find these simply bizarre...germs aren't cuddly or cute, they are potentially fatal....I must be missing something. I asked my daughter what she thought and she said, "who would want that??"
ReplyDeleteGood way to introduce kids to obscure creatures.

It's so cute that she calls it her "shrimp" :) I think you are absolutely right, this would be a great way to teach children in preschool. I may want to introduce this idea to my son's preschool director! Thanks for the idea :)

Sorry to hear she is kinda freaked about germs...it's all in what you make it...I mean if my kid leaves the bathroom without washing their hands, I don't freak on it....it's gross but whatever...they need some bad bacteria along with the good to build up their immune systems.
ReplyDeleteI like the one you chose and am glad you tried to educate her on it. :-)
My grandkids are home schooled and these would be awesome learning tools!
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a fun way for kids to learn about germs without getting scared and over reacting!! They are great learning tools and they will be learning while playing!
