Chicken Chili!

With the freeze warnings and cold mornings, it is a wonder how anyone can  get out of bed!  We both like to cook, often from scratch.  We both come from grandmas that did everything from scratch, on Italian and one  Polish.   VERY different cooking tastes, but the same basics!  Once the weather begins to get cold it is always soup and chili weather.

I call this Chicken Chili.  Usually I would put it into a pot and cook it all day, checking up on it  and stirring it.  But I decided to use a slow cooker because I have a TON of laundry to do. I usually have more stuff to add to our chili, but there is no way I am venturing outside on this chilly (: ha ha :) day!

After looking through the cabinets I realized we had 3 cans of beans, about 6 cans of diced tomatoes, many cans of actual soup, and a lot of sauces.  I buy sauce like I buy shoes - if it looks good I'm trying it!

So I found the 2 cans of beans I could use, Great Northern and Kidney (the 3rd was Green Beans).  Big surprise, I had lots of diced tomatoes to choose from!  To create the 'sauce' I added Tomato Sauce and 1/2 can of water to create the cooking base.

Add whatever spices you want!  I had Paprika, Basil, Pepper, Red Pepper Flakes, and of course Garlic Salt.  Yum!  I had left over chicken from the last nice day to cookout and chopped it into tiny cubes and dropped it in.  I basically just dumped what I felt like eating until it smelled good - :)  Right before you are finished simmering it in the slow cooker (3-6 hours), add some Buffalo or Hot Sauce to this!  Yummy!   PS.  Did you know this is Gluten-Free!?

I was going to call this Chicken Dump, but realized it may sound disgusting.  (:  Enjoy.

Unreal Candy!

The name says it all, Unreal.  When we first received it I automatically checked out the food facts on the back of every box/bag. The simple fact is this candy is amazing!   When I think of candy I always think about my teeth getting cavities or the kids becoming little chubsters from all  the calories in them.  My belly really does like this almost as much as my tastebuds!  As I was browsing the website getting all the information to give readers and people attending the party, I saw something that thought I never would on a candy website.  They were promoting eating fruit - see below!

Why Fruit

UNREAL RECOMMENDS EATING FRUIT TO HIT YOUR SWEET SPOT. IT'S LOADED WITH THE NUTRITION YOUR BODY NEEDS AND TASTES GREAT.

The first thing I noticed different about this candy was the coloring.  When I was sampling the Chocolate Candy Shell Peanuts I pulled out a greenish color to show the group.  Many giggled and said it looked like crushed peas, but tasted like goodness!

What makes UNREAL™ products unique?

Our candies contain no artificial flavors, preservatives or hormones; no GMO’s (genetically modified organisms); no hydrogenated oils; and no corn syrup. Instead, we use real sugar, natural oils, and real milk. Also, you don’t need to travel to a fancy health food store or pay a premium to buy our candy, it’s only available where junk food is available.

One of the main things I wanted to share with everyone is how different the Nutrition Facts are from the Unreal brand compared to a well-known brand.  See them below!

The full taste of actual chocolate was astonishing in these.  If you love chocolate, hot cocoa, and a smooth texture than these are for you!

If you can actually make candy that includes peanuts less than 250 calories, bring them to me!  Well lookie there, Unreal did!  This type of Unreal candy was great - it even had a more natural peanut taste than the "other" brands do.

How can you do this?  I feel like Pinterest is ruining my diet because I recently found a "salad" that this would be amazing to make out of.  Yum Yum!

I love apples, but this candy bar did taste better.  How can it only have 170 calories?  Because it is Unreal!

Because many people love the peanut butter covered in smooth chocolate, I knew this would be a hit.  I loved that people keep saying how good it is and they can not believe it is less calories.  I replied, "It is Unreal!" Ha...Ha..Ha....  (:

After we tried all the candy and everyone was presently surprised with their goodie bags, the first question was "Where can I get this?"  Well just go to this link :)    If you want to keep track of the company and watch out for coupons do not forget to LIKE them on FB!

Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn Giveaway!

Welcome to the Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn Giveaway

 Oogies Popcorn

Good luck from us at Blabs from a SAHM and TW!!

This giveaway is brought to you by Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn

The giveaway is hosted by Couponing With Integrity and Giveaway Gator.

Co-hosted by Mommy Lesson Plans and Pea of Sweetness
Oogies gourmet popcorn

About:
Oogie's Gourmet popcorn is gluten free, has no trans fats, no cholesterol and is all natural. Let's all be honest now, usually when a food or snack product sells itself as being healthy or not unhealthy, the first thing we all instantly wonder is if it has any taste. Somewhere along the way we have been bamboozled into believing that the only way for something to possibly taste good is if it is lathered in cholesterol and sprinkled with artificial flavoring.

I'm happy to report that while Oogie's does not claim to be beneficial to your health but they went out of their way to ensure that their gourmet popcorn is not unhealthy for you. As for the taste...Oogie's has a wide variety of bold gourmet popcorn flavors and I mean bold.

Don't get me wrong I love popcorn but I'm used to the artificial microwave variety that leaves that distinctive smell in your kitchen after you make it. I am used to bland popcorn so popcorn was the snack I would gravitate to when there was nothing else to snack on. Oogie's gourmet popcorn was a rather pleasant surprise to me.

We first opened the Movie Lover's Butter Popcorn and I was expecting it to have that same flavor as the store bought easy popcorn. Do you know the type I'm referring to? Comes in a folded envelope and looks like something that might have been designed to go along on a space expedition to the moon. The Oogie's popcorn buttery flavor was definitely there but no greasy fingers because the popcorn was light, crispy and fat free.

Okay, so you can teach an old dog a few new tricks. I always thought popcorn was best had fresh from the microwave but Oogie's foil lined bag delivered light fresh popcorn that smelled and tasted like it was just popped.

I like spicy things, so I personally had my eye on the Hatch Chili Con Queso. I have learned from the past that anything marked as spicy will have a slight burn but will have no flavor. Oogie's turned this one around on me because the spicy Hatch Chili Con Queso was not hot at all but had a beautiful chili flavor. The wife and kids all know that if anything is labeled as spicy that it is mine so they were wary of trying the Hatch Chili Con Queso, not because I would bite their heads off but because none of them can stand anything with heat to it.

I offered some of the "spicy" popcorn to the kids and at first they thought I was trying to trick them into eating something hot but I managed to get them to take a nibble. I should have kept up the spicy hot facade because they finished off the bag in no time.

Of all the popcorn we ate we all liked the Cracked Pepper and Asiago flavor because we all like pepper. I am very pleased with Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn and would highly recommend you try them all because there is not really one that I can say was not good.

Holy Yum! Bart's Cookie~Review

We rarely have anything sweet in our house but when we do it is cookies.  I am a pretty good cook but I can't bake at all.  I was under the assumption that all cookies are pretty much the same.  But after I tried Bart's Cookies, I knew I was wrong!

Bart started baking while he was in college for his friends and family.  Then he started his own company and he began sending his cookies to all his clients as thank you gifts.  After twenty years he decided that cookies should be his business!  And boy after tasting them, I can tell you he was right!

Bart's Cookies come in the following kinds:

~Dark Chocolate Chip
~Milk Chocolate Chip
~Milk+Dark Chocolate Chip(Combo)
~Peanut Butter Milk Chocolate Chip
~White Chocolate Chip
~White Chocolate Chip+Macadamia Nuts
~Plus Gluten Free versions!
I was able to try the milk chocolate chip cookies.  When I first opened my box of Bart's cookies, I was surprised that there were two extra cookies!  At first glance they looked small but then I realized how tall they were.  I have never seen a cookie look the way that Bart's do! I took a bite.  Then another.  Then possible one more.  They were delicious!  They somehow manage to get that fresh out of the oven taste, without the oven.  The cookies were moist and packed with chocolate chips.  When my husband got home from work, he made a beeline to the cookies.  Within minutes of trying one, he was on Bart's website looking at other flavors.  We finished our cookies about two weeks ago and the hubby is still talking about them!  These cookies are seriously the best cookies I have ever had(sorry mom)!!

Zevia All Natural Soda~Review and Giveaway!

I am a huge Mountain Dew fan.  I drink it every day and as I am getting older, I realize how bad it is for me. Almost all soda is packed with sugar.  I needed to find an alternative to my usual pop if I wanted to start becoming healthier.  Most diet sodas contain artificial sweeteners which I am not at all comfortable with eating.  Other sodas use sweeteners such as honey, agave or fruit juice, but they also contain the added calories. Then I read all about Zevia and how they use the all natural, zero calorie sweetener stevia!

About Zevia(from their website):
"We’re all soda loving people at Zevia. We grew up with classic soda flavors, and turned away from them for health reasons. So making naturally delicious, healthier versions of the familiar favorites we grew up with, without sugar, just seemed smarter. In fact, Zevia is just that, the smarter soda.
At Zevia, we feel it’s not just our business, it’s our responsibility to tell people that there’s a better way. We’re passionate about stevia, and if we can make the soda category– and the world – better with our product, that’s a very meaningful contribution.
With natural products, being healthy isn’t enough – a product has to taste great, and also be healthy, to really be a compelling alternative. At Zevia, we really believe that we’ve created a better soda."
Zevia comes in all of these flavors:

Cola, Cherry Cola, Dr.Zevia, Caffeine free Cola, Grapefruit Citrus, Ginger Ale, Lime Cola, Orange, Black Cherry, Strawberry, Cream Soda,  Grape, Lemon Lime Twist, Mountain Zevia, and Ginger Root Beer.

We were able to try Caffeine free Cola, Grapefruit Citrus, Dr.Zevia, Orange, Mountain Zevia and Black Cherry.  Now being a avid Mountain Dew drinker I was really curious about the Zevia counterpart.  It does not really taste like Mountain Dew but it is really pleasant.  It seems to taste a lot lighter and even a little sweeter.  I really did like it and I could see myself drinking this.  My husband loved the Black Cherry flavor. He said that it had a really great flavor and it was perfectly sweet.  The Orange was my other favorite.  It surprised me that it was clear not orange.  I would next like the try the Ginger Ale and Strawberry!  If you are looking for a great alternative to regular soda, Zevia is the way to go!

Zevia has generously offered one reader a coupon for a free six pack!! All you have to do is enter below!

Chili Cheese Fries

Chili Cheese Fries - Gluten-Free :)

I can not wait until it is dinner! While I was learning what my good/bad/trigger foods were I always defaulted to potatoes. They are filling, easy to make, and fun to cut. I would be the strange kid who loved peeling potatoes! Tip: My dad and mom always gave me the carrot peeler to peel potatoes. I never got the real, true knife. To this day I would rather use the carrot peeler!

Be sure you have the following – as with any recipe you can substitute what you want and do not want!
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 3 russet potatoes, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons grill seasoning
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
How to work your magic:
  1. Oven- Center rack at 425 degrees F. Line 2 pans with parchment or foil.
  2. Mix together cornstarch, chili powder, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, cumin.
  3. Rinse potatoes and peel with a carrot peeler! Use a big person knife and slice around a 1/4-inch piece off the potato lengthwise – now it is your bottom! Continue to slice potato into 1/4 to 3/8-inch wide planks.
  4. Stack ‘em in piles 2 to 3 planks high, and slice lengthwise into 1/4 to 3/8-inch fries.
  5. Toss your ‘fake fries’ around in olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, and whatever grill seasoning you have. Sprinkle the cornstarch mixture over the potato slices like snow. Grab a pair of tongs to evenly coat everything.
  6. Spread potatoes in a single layer across the pans. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes – mix 2/3 times during cooking to get every side crispy.  Remember to add the cheese on top if you want before you are ready to serve!
Enjoy ‘yins fries!

Beanitos~Review

My two year old daughter loves chips.  But I almost always refuse to give her any.  Why?  Most chips are down right horrible for you!  I was excited to be able to try Beanitos! Beanitos are not just a healthy version of a chip; they are actually good for you!  They are all:

~Corn Free
~Gluten Free
~High in Fiber
~Certified Low Glycemic
~Contain 6g of Complete Protein
~Non-GMO Project Verified
~Trans Fat and Cholesterol Free
I was able to try four different kinds of Beanitos!

Black Bean-
My daughter is actually eating some of these right now.  She thinks they are chocolate because of the color and I'm not going to tell her the truth! I liked these, too. They definitely don't taste like regular potato chips.  They are lightly salted and I can see myself eating these on occasion.

Black Bean Chipotle BBQ-
These were my favorite! They are same the chips as above but are covered in chipotle BBQ seasoning.  They were spicy but not too overpowering.  I have ate almost all of these over the last week!

Pinto Bean and Flax-
I wasn't a huge fan of this kind.  My husband really liked them but I thought they needed a bit more seasoning.  But I do like that you can actually see the flax seeds in the,.

Pinto Bean and Flax Cheddar Cheese-
Although I didn't really like the plain ones, I did like these!  They have a good cheddar flavor but I did wish they had a little more seasoning.  My husband and I ate a bunch of these while playing cards this weekend.

Sublime Media Connection will be giving a whole case to one lucky reader so be on the lookout for that!

Ozeri Pro II Digital Kitchen Scale~Review

Have you ever tried a diet and tried to figure out the amount of calories you are eating?  It is almost impossible!  I wanted to see if my favorite cheese was going to be reasonable but when I found the nutritional info I was stumped.  I can eat one ounce of cheese but how much is one ounce?  One slice? A thin or thick slice?  I was thrilled to be able to try the Ozeri Pro II Digital Kitchen Scale.  Ozeri makes digital products for the modern world.  They have a ton of really cool stuff that I would love to try out like electronic wine openers, salt and pepper mills, and book lights.  Here are some of the key features of the kitchen scale:

~Newly design with a capacity range from 0.05 oz to 12 lbs (1 gram to 5.4 kg),
~Built-in countdown kitchen timer with 3 alarm modes (audible beep, blinking LED, or combined)
~Precision tare feature subtracts the weight of the container for the net weight of the ingredients;
~Easy unit button instantly converts between oz, g, lbs, and kg.
~Large screen features a bright LCD with an improved viewing angle for the on-the-go cook.
~Over sized buttons generate audible click confirmation
~3-minute automatic turn-off preserves battery life.
~Finished in elegant chrome and sized for easy storage and portability
~Ships with 2 AAA batteries included.
I decided to try it out while making a simple meal that we often eat at home, Sauteed potatoes, green peppers and onions.  Now I knew that this was probably a pretty healthy meal but I had no idea the amount of calories it had.  So after I chopped all the the ingredients, I weighed them all on the scale.  The scale is really easy to use!  I did not have one problem with it.  I wrote down all the weights of everything; I changed the measurement units with a press of a button.  I used the Calorie Guide that comes with the scale to find the calorie per gram ratio for the ingredients.  It turns out that the entire huge pan only had 652.79 calories!  I could eat half of everything I made for about 325 calories!  I plan on weighing pretty much everything I make now so I can get serious about this dieting thing! I also really liked how small it is, you can easily store it without taking up valuable kitchen space. Overall, I love my new scale!

I loved these!  The high protein ones do not have any salt of them so I have no problem giving a lot of them to my daughter.  She really liked them and asks for them everyday for a snack.  The spelt ones were a great pick for me.  There is just enough salt and a great flavor.  All their pretzels are baked, not fried, so they make a great low fat snack.

Signature Series Chocolate-
Dark Chocolate
Super Dark Chocolate
Mocha Milk Chocolate
Milk Chocolate
Espresso Dark
Chocolate Orange

LOVED this chocolate!  I was never really a big fan of dark chocolate but this stuff is amazing.  Every kind had a rich and smooth flavor. I thought organic chocolate would have an odd flavor but it was better than any non-organic chocolate I have ever had.
Chocolate Cups-
Peanut Butter in Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate
Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cup
Caramel cup in Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate

I was surprised by these.  I expected they would have a thick, chewy center.  They had a creamy, rich filling.  These cups are main with the same chocolate as the bars above.  My daughter really enjoyed the caramel cups and my husband ate the peanut butter cups all in one sitting!
Family Recipe Cookies-
Orange Chocolate Chip
Ginger Snaps

I have never had either kind of these cookies before!  They were both really good.  I can definitely see myself buying the ginger snaps on occasion!

Newman O's(Cream Filled Chocolate Cookies)-
Original
Chocolate
Ginger 'n' Cream

These tastes just like Oreo's but are made with all organic ingredients!  They were one of my favorite products that I got to try.  I really liked the chocolate ones.  They were sweet but not overpowering.  Very tasty cookies!
Dried Fruit-
Apples
Raisins

This dried fruit is made with 100% organic fruit and contains no sulfates.  I often buy similar  dried fruit for my daughter but noticed that most of them contain sugars or other chemical sweeteners.  These only have fruit, nothing else!  I will be switching brands next time I go to the store!
Mints-
Cinnamon
Ginger
Peppermint
Wintergreen

I have been popping these mints like there is no tomorrow.  I am not a mint person but these are great.  These aren't too sweet and are low fat.  Plus the tins are really cool!
Licorice-
Sour Strawberry
Sour Cherry
Sour Mango
Sour Apple
Black
Strawberry
Pomegranate

I am not a huge licorice fan so I gave all these to my brother to try.  He really liked them all and said that the strawberry ones were very good.

I also tried: Low Fat Fig Newman's, Pop's Corn, and Alphabet Cookies-Cinnamon Graham.

I have never really liked fig cookies but I did like these.  They have a really mild flavor and I feel good giving these to my daughter.  The popcorn is excellent.  I love popcorn but never buy it because of how fattening it is.  But this is about the healthiest popcorn you can have!  The Alphabet cookies were my daughter's favorite.  Not only do they taste great but I can work on her letters with her.  It's a win-win for everyone!
